Transcendence, Coming Home & Meeting Life

Coming Home

T.S. Eliot said in Burnt Norton that, “Except for the point, the still point, There would be no dance and there is only the
dance.” The still point is the moment where there is just the essence of being. We learn from our insightful moments like the Subtle State Shifts (SSS), Bearing Points and Joint Knowing. These are times when we experience deep shifts of consciousness & have time to reflect on these. Like coming home to ourselves.

Meeting Life

Life is a succession of lessons that must be lived in order to be understood. (Emerson). Dont ask me the reason for life’s process but it seems plausible that one reason might be that we need to live life out in order to really get it somehow. I call this Meeting Life. So although coming home can be a time of deep insight if it becomes a forgotten memory then as Emerson says maybe we didnt really get it? In meeting the realities of life we have that chance to manifest the deeper insights. Meditating in a cave might not cut it!

Transcendence

There is the point from which we watch both steps 1 and 2. Although ‘coming home’ may often be transcendent itself, I’m using ‘transcendence’ here to refer to the capacity to see this movement back and forth between Coming Home and Meeting life. This is quite like the dance that Eliot refers to.
From the viewpoint of transcendence there are the options of taking a short-term or a long term view of life.
From Transcendence, we can see the confusion and lostness that occurs when we move away (to meet life) from our home base of presence in the still point.
These are those moments of rarity when we seem to just know that at some level everything is just the way it should be, no matter how ridiculous it may seem at other times.
